Founded in the early 1960s by Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and others, the United Farm Workers of America (UFW) is the largest union representing farm workers in the United States. Primarily active in California, the UFW advocates for thousands of workers across various agricultural sectors, including vegetables, berries, wineries, tomatoes, and dairy.

More than 75 percent of California's fresh mushroom industry is now unionized. The UFW has sponsored significant laws that benefit all farm workers, including granting overtime pay after eight hours and establishing standards to prevent heat-related illnesses. The union has also provided COVID-19 protections for agricultural workers.

As a leader in the movement for immigration reform, the UFW's recent bill for immigrant field workers passed the U.S. House with bipartisan support. The union continues to advocate for reforms on issues like overtime, heat safety, worker protections, and pesticide use.
